Over at Shakesville, Liss has written a lot about the media's refusal to call rape what it is (two* examples). I don't have much to add, but I was particularly struck (and angered) by this.

That is just obscene.
We describe rape as sex to privilege the rapist. It is a violent act of violation and other word is a disservice to the victims. This case in particular is traumatic and heart breaking.
