I kept thinking of you and this post yesterday. I feel like I get why this would be the one to make you cry. I just wish it hadn't been a matter of there being multiple attempts, by the ugliness at large, among other things. I'm not confident that I know how to make the "hug" sign but it's what I feel like sending in your direction.
I had this moment when I was like, this must be what my parents felt like when they heard about the other men on that card being assassinated.
For so long, I have tried to downplay the effect his candidacy has on me--worried, I think, of being accused of drinking the Obama Kool-Aid. Now, I don't give a damn if people say I'm voting for him because he's black, but being accused of cultishness is more than I can bear. :-)
But, I have come to the point where I have to admit that I am excited about his candidacy, the historical potential, the muted hope I do have for some kind of change.
And the thought that someone can take all that away from me and millions of others with a bullet (or whatever) is more than I can take (hence the tears).

Joan,
