I Try Not to Talk Too Much about My Job...

But, oh my God y'all, I just heard one of my (male) co-workers tell a female student that she got points off an exam because part of what she wrote was "too feminist for today."

Life in post-sexist academia...

Stentor, he was saying that her argument was better suited to the past--you know, before women overcame.

I hope she complained - academics (I speak as one by the one) should judge whether the argument hangs together, not whether we necessarily agree with it (within boundaries on not condoning discriminatory or hate speech of course).

What Stentor said would have been a great comeback if only the student had thought of it.

I only wish I had students who were "too feminist"--whatever that means. Where is this student? And would she like to take a class from me? Please?
