How I Know I'm Back in the Rural South

Actual sign from the high school basketball game I attended tonight:

I'm not sure if that's a truly "south" thing as much as "rural" thing. I remember going to visit a camp friend who lived in rural Oregon and their high school granted excused absences for huntin' trips. I'm just saying.

A gun raffle? At a school? That is a new one to me!

Priceless! I agree that this is definitely more a rural thing than a strictly southern thing.

I lived in Oregon 4 four years, and there was a gun and knife show on the fairgrounds something like once a year.

Yet again you remind me why I really don't want to move back to rural areas.

hmm, was there no one around who though, gee, this might not be wise?

Well, if one of the students shoots three others with the same shotgun, will that be a surprise to anyone? I've learned as a parent that children torment us with whatever we give them. Give them a television, and witness hours of arguments about what shows to watch and why it's not time to go to bed yet. Give them a ball and they're chasing it into the street as the cars go by. So, if you want to see your child, his brother or six neighbors with a face full of buckshot, then just give then a shotgun. It works everyday.

Hey, give them a shotgun as a going away present when they go to college. It might help them to adjust. Or it might not.
